First week in Mexico - Part I Mexico DF

Hi all,
We've been in Mexico for 8 days already, but we have done so many things that it looks like we've spent here much more!

In Mexico DF we stayed at a veeeery nice hostel Hostal Regina, probably the best one we will stay at in this trip. In a couple of days we were able to see the most important sights of the city: Zocalo, Catedral, Plaza Garibaldi, Templo Mayor, Palacio Nacional y Bosque de Chapultepec and Teotihuacan.

Teotihuacan was the first prehispanic pyramids that we visited and climbed!

One of the first things we noted about DF was that it is built on top of a lake and a lot of old buildings are tilted like Torre de Pisa!

One of the highlights of DF was when we went to Plaza Garibaldi. After walking through some not very nice streets we got there. We thought that Mariachis were playing there almost all day but it is not true the party start at around 7pm! We were there totally alone at 2 pm, looking for a place to get lunch. We ate at the place that looked the least bad, but surprise! Our quesadilla had a hair in it! After this amazing experience :$ came the real highlight. We were already leaving the square and we heard a big mariachi band playing. There were about 40 people playing all of them very passionate. We got closer and found out that it was a funeral. Maybe a mariachi died.. We got mixed feelings as the songs were romantic, but the environment very sad...

The second highlight was being able to see the exposition in Palacio Nacional that commemorated the 2nd century of the independence of Mexico. There, we also met our good friends Gonzalo and Nina, who also invited us to their house in the countryside in Valle de Bravo. Thanks guys!!!!

and NEXT STOP: Puebla and Oaxaca.
